Announcing WINTERSTAGE
A vacation program to be held during the February school holiday, WinterStage will feature Circus Theatricks, taught by Sean Fagan. Winterstage will be held Feb. 19 - 23, 2007, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. There are three divisions of NYSTI's Theatre Arts School that provide a variety of programs: Theatre Arts School for Young People (September through December and January through May), SummerStage, and the Summer Theatre Institute (July/August). Classes, which are taught by professional theatre artists in a non-competitive, creative atmosphere are designed for everyone. The Theatre Arts School balance of professional training with personal development has provided participants a firm foundation in theatre performance fundamentals since 1978. Creative Dramatics (students ages 3-7) - A one-hour class held Saturdays (at 9, 10, or 11:00 A.M.), designed to channel the very young student's imagination in constructive, interactive activities that emphasize self-expression. Tuition: $150. per semester.

Theatre Skills Workshop is a three-hour workshop that meets Saturdays from 9:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. The workshop consists of three classes (an hour for each class) in acting, movement, and voice. The workshops focus on improving the performer’s body, mind, and voice through theatre games, improvisation, and character development. For ages 8-12; tuition is $300. per semester.

Performance Skills Workshop groups students by age and experience, with the focus on preparation of scripted materials, vocal selections, and choreography. These three-hour workshops (1:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M.) culminate in an informal staged presentation. For ages 13-18; tuition is $300. per semester.

Production Workshop (Experienced Theatre Arts School students only) This two-semester workshop is a four-hour weekly program of acting, movement and voice requiring a serious, full school-year commitment by the student. The focus of the Production Workshop is the creation and development of original works culminating in a stage production in the spring. Tuition: $600. per year.
SummerStage, is carefully designed to provide a combination of structured performing arts training, creative expression, fun, social interaction with other students, and the opportunity to perform. Individual and collaborative work by the young people under the guidance of experienced teachers culminates in an original presentation created and performed by the students. The SummerStage experience provides a training ground and showcase for young performers’ creative talents.
Summer Theatre Institute is a unique opportunity. College and high school participants audition and interview for acceptance. Acting, singing, and dance classes, conducted with professional standards, coincide with a workshop production of a brand new musical. The musical is performed for audiences during the concluding days of the program. The faculty of Summer Theatre Institute includes professional director, choreographer, music director, and teachers.
